Commodity Manager  

Position available in Mountain View, CA.

Google is looking for a Commodity Manager to reduce the material cost of our search clusters, which form one of the largest computing platforms in the world. If you have the talent and tenacity to obtain the lowest cost of ownership on high-value purchases we would like to hear from you. We are particularly looking for candidates who possess passion for determining best prices based on doing extensive research into market conditions and competitive situations. A strong technical background, prior commodity management experience and contract negotiation skills are required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Secure the best possible price on computer/network hardware and components and develop long term commodity procurement strategies.
  • Research and understand the relevant markets and cost drivers and recommend strategies for improving the procurement and supply chain process (e.g. through volume purchase agreements, vendor-managed inventory plans, leadtime reductions, etc.).
  • Participate in planning and scheduling of purchases.
  • Drive supplier and component qualification.
  • Develop and maintain positive and ethical supplier relationships, including at executive levels.
  • Develop metrics for supplier performance and hold quarterly business reviews.
  • Lead sourcing efforts including supplier audits, evaluation and risk assessment.

All applicants must possess:

  • A passion for (and demonstrated ability in) minimizing costs.
  • The ability to lead cross functional commodity teams.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop processes and procedures that standardize best-in-class supply chain practices.
  • Experience in purchasing computer hardware and computer component parts.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A good familiarity with Software License Agreements.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, monitoring, and administration.
  • Near-boundless enthusiasm and tenacity, with fast-learning skills and the ability to be organized and effective in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years Commodity Management experience or close equivalent.
  • Experience with new product introduction and lifecycle management.
  • A BA/BS degree.

Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer

Position available in Mountain View, CA.

Google has an immediate need for a highly resourceful Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer to be responsible for the manufacturing process for Google hardware products. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who jumps in and gets the important stuff done while relishing the challenging and fun start-up environment.

The successful candidate will play a lead role in the following:
  • Identifying and qualifying electrical and mechanical component vendors, as well as contract manufacturing vendors.
  • Coordinating the interactions between Google engineering, purchasing, and test personnel and outside vendors.
  • Resolving manufacturing problems by applying knowledge and skills, escalating design, manufacturing, and product test issues to other people within the organization when appropriate.
  • Focusing on process improvement which shall result in reducing process cycle time, increasing quality and reducing cost.
  • Performing Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Cost (DFC), and process optimization for quality and productivity improvement.
  • Communicating design and material changes to the contract manufacturers, purchasing and planning.
  • Managing and maintaining the AVL, BOMs and ECNs in Google's system.
  • Participating in New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
  • Creating assembly instructions.
All candidates must possess:
  • A BS degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial technology.
  • Expertise in electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Broad knowledge of common sheet metal materials and fabrication techniques.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturing vendors.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management systems.
  • Recent experience with 3D modeling tools (pref Pro-E Wildfire).
  • Outstanding customer service skills / verbal and written communication skills.
The following are pluses:
  • Knowledge of packaging, cooling and electrical assembly.
  • Experience in new product test and process control.
  • Experience designing mechanical tooling and fixtures.

Supply Chain Analyst

Position available in Mountain View, CA.

Google is seeking a proven professional with a supply chain background and strong quantitative skills. You will become a key interface to our supply base and be responsible for coordinating the movement of material. You will leverage your communication skills and statistical analysis to help drive continuous improvement and best practices. As part of our strategic initiatives, you will be responsible for developing models, metrics, processes, spreadsheets, and databases reports. From this, you will derive recommendations for process improvements to help increase efficiencies. This position requires a very self motivated individual with a strong attention to detail and an ability to quickly turn data into meaningful metrics and results.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement and maintain vendor managed inventory.
  • Analyze and maximize shipping and logistics methods across projects/locations.
  • Perform statistical analysis to help drive continuous improvement for manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain metrics for builds by collecting data from various sources.
  • Analyze and track movement of high dollar components.
  • Provide assistance in gathering the data and provide inputs to the Supplier Business Review scorecard for the CMs.
  • Help in developing, implementing and maintaining policies for inventory.
  • Perform price and cost analysis for various manufacturing expenditure.
  • Analyze MRP data, work with Purchasing and suppliers on supplier commitments and communicate schedule adjustments to meet our requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional team(s), to help improve overall manufacturing process by providing visibility of inventory and utilizing spreadsheets, graphs, etc.
  • Set targets and measure progress towards annual cost reduction initiatives, and support project metrics.
All candidates must possess:
  • A BA/BS degree.
  • At least 3-4 years of production and/or procurement experience.
  • Experience with benchmarking.
  • Experience with performance metrics for continuous company improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, follow-up, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Expertise with database and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, computer and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with Oracle and ERP/MRP systems.
