Why has no one posted about these? O_o (No MCN, or I would've myself.)
The coolest news for me (and the news tidbit that's been carried by the fewest number of news outlets, so I _almost_ missed it >_<):
http://sony.gamerfeed.com/gf/news/5572/
Sly Cooper 2: Band of Thieves. This is groovy because I enjoy the game (how did I describe it before that irritated Ed, "Action Stealth" I think? ;P Nah, that wasn't it...), and Sony got very quiet after it was released. Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank both went on to have sequels announced and subsequently released, and it was starting to look like the Sly license had been ditched by Sony. I'm glad it'd just been back-burnered instead.
I do love how Gamerfeed carefully describes the new hub layout to the level choosing area (comparing it to Maximo for clarification), that sounds exactly the same to the one in the first Sly Cooper. :P Interesting that there'll be more playable characters (Carmelita?), I just hope it doesn't water down the gameplay too much. Theivius Raccoonus pulled off the side/sub games rather well, but _specifically_ playing as Bentley? Doesn't sound too appealing.
Anyway, in addition to that...
http://sony.gamerfeed.com/gf/pr/5557/
Jak and Daxter's got another new outing coming (I hope it's a bit better thought out in spots than their last, although I dug the one-world approach), and Ratchet and Clank are returning as well.
Three of the best PS2 platformer/action titles are all getting sequels, and nary a word here. Meanwhile, we have a topic about posting pictures of the antiques in your house. Feh. ;P I know there's not much to talk about in the way of announced details, but there's always the "What do you want to see" and "What did you enjoy about the past versions" conversations... |

Okay, Gamerfeed is down so I can't view the links, but I'm surprised Sony greenlighted a sequal to Sly Cooper considering that it wasn't a really big seller...
...but then again, we are also getting the ICO sequel Nico.

Nico's been in the works for a while, though. Perhaps back-burnered itself, or maybe they just really wanted to take the time to tweak it. But Ico's slowly built up a market for itself. They even released Ico as the first PS2 title into the Chinese market.
The links don't say much other than what I described above. Sly 2 actually had the most details, the other article basically said SCEA confirmed the two, and then went on to describe their previous outtings.
And I think you're right about Sly, at least at first; I noticed that when they released the Greatest Hits version, they actually gave it a different, more descriptive cover (a cartoony scene of Sly), as opposed to just his calling card. It shows they were trying, at least, instead of just shoving it into the bins as-is and forgetting about it. |

Woopie, sequels to series that have been actually worth their salt in recent years, as opposed to some licenses people turn a blind eye to.
Sly's an excellent game, it really is, and I'm glad it got the chance at a sequel. And R&C seems to be doing well, even with quick dev turn arounds.
The only thing that bugs me is Jak 3. Jak 2 had a lot of issues and some shallow implementation (basically, it went in Ratchet and Clank's direction, but didn't do anything R&C did even half as well), and the ending... Naughty Dog really has a touch for "wow, that was the most "Meh" ending in a while..." Hopefully Jak 3 will show more polish or yet another development direction change. |

Well I liked Sonic and Mario back then. However, I don't like any of these ones personally.

Besides, the Sonic and Mario Franchises were considerably popular before #3 came around.
Sonic had alredy had:
Sonic 1 (Genesis)
Sonic 1 (GG)
Sonic 2 (GG)
Sonic 2 (Genesis)
Sonic Spinball (Genesis)
Sonic CD (Sega CD)
Sega Sonic Arcade (Arcade)
Sonic Chaos/Sonic and Tails (GG)
Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Genesis)
Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (GG)
Not to mention 2 TV shows, a comic, a parade Balloon, and he was like the 3rd most popular character at the time only behind Mike Jordan and Mike Jackson....Sonic was either popular enough, or people were used to his games comming out...so the 3rd installment was no surprise.
Mario had...err....Help? |

Arrrrgh, Naughty Dog really tries to milk their crap as much as possible, right? At least it's been comfirmed that Rachet and Clank 3 will be the last Rachet and Clank game.
And Sly Cooper 2, yay. Let's hope they actually put some STEALTH in their "Stealth Platformer."

Those are the type of games that'll go down in gaming history. Everyone has heard of them! Now Sly Cooper... me-eh. It was an okay game, but not sequal worthy, IMO. =P |

True, but all they made on the PSX was Crash games! All Crash games!

According to Gamefaqs, Crash Bash was designed by Eurocom Entertainment Software, and published by Sony Computer Entertainment (America/Europe/Japan), not Naughty Dog. Crash 4: Wrath of Cortex was developed by our ol' pals, Traveller's Tales, responsible for such gems like Sonic 3D Blast. It was published under Universal Interactive/Vivendi Games.

It isn't. The series was created by Insomniac.

They[Mario and Sonic] are also they type of characters who have been milked by their respective companies. If Sony promoted these characters like Ninty and Sega and still does with Mario and Sonic with spin-offs games, cartoons, comics and other merchandise in the past then 10-15 years down the road, people would probably talk how they would go down in gaming history.

Idunno. Countless merchandise and sequels don't always make things popular. Mario and Sonic truely amazed people when they came out. I'm sure the other helped a lot, but those games don't even compare with Sonic and Ma-ma-ma-mario. |

Which are very close with Naughty Dog. Both Crash (Naughty Dog's former) and Spyro (Insomniac's former) are property of Universal/Vivendi now (and as we can see, they're teaming up in a future game).
Additionally, the game engine for Ratchet and Clank was based off the Jak & Daxter Engine that Naughty Dog shared with Insomniac.
