Yep, Kulock the moogle, great Ruler of all that is Good(within the Moogle Cavern), the King of Mog, the grand poobah, the guy who puts Moogle into MoogleMB, is now in the 3rd dimension!
Made with the open source Blender ( www.blender.org ), I worked on this for goodness knows how many hours, doing parts of it here and there since about mid September.
I chose Kulock as a thank you to probably the greatest moogle that ever lived for giving us such a cool community and because he is cool to model. (I heard him commenting a while ago that he dosn't get that much fanart, well I hope this helps you feel more appreciated!).
Making it was quite a challange, I'd dabbled (and I mean dabbled) in other 3d programs before but this is definitly the biggest 3d project I'd ever undertaken and completed successfully. In terms of Blender, it was definitly a step up from my only other Blender model, the blue baseball cap.
So working on it on and off, gradually making progress, at times not sure it would ever be completed, other times getting fustrated, ofren looking up references for information about how to do stuff, but finally, tonight, I dubbed it complete. Well, as complete as it can be for this stage. There were things like the hands and whiskers I'd have liked to improve upon, but I felt I had put enough work into them already and should just leave it at that. I was also thinking of rigging the model so I could pose it and maybe do some animation, but gimme a break, I think this is enough for now.
All in all, I think I leared a lot from doing this. Next time I'd like to learn some more advanced techniques as well as have better reference for the model and a better idea on how to make it come out the way I want it to, but I guess those are things that all artist want.
There's a copy of the blend 3d model file here: http://netsoc.tcd.ie/~sofox/3d/kulock3d/Kulock3d.blend in case anyone wants to look at it and maybe make their own changes, although I warn you, it may not look so pretty when you get up close. What can I say, I'm new at this.
Well having said that, I close my post, any thoughts, comments, critizisms, advice, ideas, questions, suggestions etc are welcome to follow.

Blender is one hell of an app. When I say that, I mean it's hard as hell to do anything. I tried to find help on it, etc., but it was just too much. I'll stick to Milkshape for that. XD
Anyhow, on to commenting on the model. Looks pretty nice! Obviously, the hands aren't that great, but the rest seem absolutely fine (including the whiskers).

It reminds me of the Archie comics where they used to have the ads for backissues, and there'd be Sonic Jam 3D models in it lol.

Heh, I remember that. Those had less polygons, though. A lot less. Didn't know they were from Sonic Jam, though.
Hmmm.
I have to play my Saturn more.

Yow. I'm shocked, to be honest. But in a good way, this is a very nice surprise, and considering you got no help from me (because I didn't know about it), and it was a learner project for you, you still did an undoubtably excellent job. Did you adapt this from a premade Tails model, or do it all by hand? If the latter, you did some impressive work in some of the parts, like the ears and whiskers, and even if you didn't do those, you still did a great job on the wings and deallybopper. (Need to scoot the wings up my back a little bit, and maybe seperate them, though.)
That's really neat, thank you very much, I mean it. Quite a nice surprise, I have to say. |

I haven't used blender in quite a while, as I've had no need to do 3D modeling aside from the novelty of it, but there are a few tools in the program designed to smooth out models, to make them look more natural, and there are some rendering filters to make it look more lifelike. I'd explore the tutorials and the documentation on their site, it might make your model look even better, no extra work required. |

Thanks Ku, glad you like the model, and nope, didn't use any preexisting Tails model, I made the whole thing from scratch (Damn, forgot to remove tail feathers!), or at least, from the supplied primitives. The deallybopper was actually pretty easy to do, just used a standard sphere mesh and a NURBS tube. The tube was a little tricky to position but since it was NURBS I just had to figure out how I wanted it to curve and didn't need to mess with polygons. The wings were pretty tricky though, I actually needed to look up bat wing pictures on the internet so I knew how to do the bone structure. The ears and whiskers took their share of time and effort too. A case of constantly changing them, and shaping them and altering them until the became close to what I wanted. Getting the right shape was tricky since I lacked good reference, namely using pixellated sprites. I originally used a old hoaxes of you for front and side reference, but when I switched over to your current Advance sprite sheet, I realised that there were a lot of subtle differences (not the apparel, which I intended to include from early on) which I had to accomodate for. However, it helped me realise that there were many different styles of drawing you so I should accept I have my own style and not to kill myself if it didn't turn out exactly as another version of you did.
Squigs: There was an option called "Set Smooth" that would have smoothed the meshes in the model, but after using it, I didn't think it looked as nice. However, your probably right in that there are other ways to give the model a less polygonal feel to it so I'll look into it.

I am awe-inspired. 3D modeling's probably my next level.

Instead of smoothing out, it'd be great if there was some kind of fur-texture you could give it.
As it is now though, it's still killer awesome. =D
