Who's with me?

Why not sci-fi, you ask?

...Incoming mini rant!

In 3!

2!

1!

I prefer fantasy over sci-fi, because sci-fi is dictated by the author's opinions and feelings of the world around him/her. A sci-fi story is simply a scenario for the world as it is (and was) to follow along. It is therefore limited by the same things the world is limited by. God is still God, or perhaps there is no God, if the writer does not believe in the existence of one.

Meanwhile, you have fantasy. In a fantasy world, there is always a supreme god. But... it is the writer that holds this power. The world is what the writer decides it to be, the laws of physics and logic and life itself can be decided completely by imagination. In the hands of a logical and realistic person, a fantasy story can then be both ordinary and extremely fantastical at the same time.

That could be written much better, but I had to get it down somewhere. It's been bugging me for a while.

You should get my gist, though. Anybody else want to create us a fantasy world? ;P
I've got an idea or two of my own, but it's just not as fun doing it by yourself.

So, how about it? Completely original scenarios, worlds, characters... anybody with me? ;)

Well, I'm with you, but we couldn't real create COMPLETELY original characters, worlds, and scenarios. They'd still be unavoidably similar to typical fantasy stuff in some ways.

Summary: I'm with ya! ;D

Hmm... well, the first order of business would be to come up with the basic structure of this world ... climate, a starting culture, that sort of thing... anything that needs to be set in stone.

...of course, I don't think we could pull this off with just 4 people. =/

Instead of an add-on, how about an RP... WHERE WE HAVE TO ROLL FOR STATS EXCEPT THE DM DOES THE ROLLS BECAUSE WE CAN'T BE TRUSTED! Yes! Then I'd participate because I miss pen and paper RPGs.

I'd sign up, but I never really saw the MC as a place for serious add-ons. I can do serious add-ons, and I have done them at other forums, it's just...I don't know what it is, but something about this place drives away my seriousness in add-ons and brings about my randomness.

So, in other words, count me out unless you plan on having a person who takes awhile to come up with replies due to the effort he's making to be serious.

Well I guess I could give it a shot. I've never really been the serious writer type though. I'm more of "the insane story with enough plot to keep it somewhat stable and interesting and to keep it from going off the tracks" type of guy, but I guess I can try. It's been a while since I've particpated in some add-on action. And the whole MC Saga thing kind of turned me off since it was filled with so much self insertion and long plots that you would have read previous stories to understand. Starting with somethign fresh and new could definetly work.

Alllllrighty...

SoNick & Toxic: Well, the idea would be for it to be serious... as in, have a plot that really drives forward, have reasonably realistic/compitent characters, and keep the annoying 4th wall destroying/plot device/complete and utter randomness to a minimum.

That doesn't mean that there can't be humor and moments of silliness... (in fact, it's much better when that stuff is present... look at the Harry Potter series for instance. You have your serious storytelling most of the time, and then you get Fred and George blowing up various parts of the school! ... well, that and "can I have a look at Uranus?") ...but they just need to be controlled.

But anyway, let the brainstorming commence. If anybody's got any ideas they want to expand upon, write 'em down. Story'll never get off the ground if there's no groundwork laid. (... those two sayings don't really work that well together. Ah well, you get the point)

Nah, thiss woulden't really be much the place to bvring it up... I'm working on a role-play called Arcania and I kinda needed help, as by myself it would never get off the ground.

Anyways, I guess I could insert some characters from the Arcania idea. Theres only... Three...

Sephiro - A rugged warrior with many scars from pervious battles. As an ex-mercenary, his sword skills are highly saught after and provide excellent combat skills in a group. Make no mistake, though, the dual-sword weilder is deadly aginst a small army by himself. He knows little about his past due to a head injury on one of his campains and seeks to know about his former family.

Nexus - A humble man who's family lives high in cold mountin climates with his tribe. He found Sephiro near death and freezing on one of his hunting expeditions and took him into his home. The two have been friends ever since. This brute of a man is peaceful by nature, but if he must, he will take out his large battle axe and do what needs to be done.

Dante - A nobel worrior who fights for good. He weilds a longsword accompanied with a large sheild with dents from the few battles he's been in. His heavy armor offers superior protection from foes he encounters. Nexus and Sephiro found him in combat with a large demon-like creature, immediatley helping him out. Like Sephiro, Dante was taken into Nexus's home.

Since then, the three have departed from the mountians, each in search of something. They agreed that their tasks would better be done as a team than alone.

Yeah, theres my 3 cents.... If that wasn't exactly what you were looking for, throw em' out ;p

Well, I think that for something like this, a large cast of characters is a must, so those could easily work at some point in the story... but I also think that it's best to "start small" with characters' powers and abilities to begin with.

Well maybe it maybe could be about a world in which shoe wearing has become mandatory. However a ragtag group of smelly footed individuals have decided to rebel against this system, with the goal of establishing the freedom to not wear shoes! LET THE FEET BE FREEEEEE!!!!

These are the strange things that pop into ones mind when they realize that they should be getting more sleep

We could solve the shoe issue by saying there are lots of thorny plants that nobody wants to step on, so everyone wears shoes, even the kinds of people who normally wouldn't.

Sz I could hug you....

I'm all in, I have a good set character, his picture is actually my avatar.

Quick Question- I have a race made up already, and a plot for this race, do you think we could maybe use that. I mean could I use my own race. If y'all want to you can, as well as the plot.

I too have an RP in the works, I was actually going to ask suggestions for it here.

If we're going to use mIRC can we wait a while before we start this addon, I need to get aquainted with the system and such. Y'know, so I can keep up with you guys.

It was a medaphore for how happy I am about this idea.....honestly.....

Oaky, here's the deal:
Roshomians- A proud tribal race, that has evolved into a primitive theocratitic society. For thousands of years they have lived in their own world, isolated on their pennisula who's only land outlet is 150 miles of desert. This is a society ruled by superstition and legend (one imparticular pretaining to my character.) In the 14 era tragedy strikes the land, as an evil tyrant rises up, destroying most of the population, the survivors become slaves or exiles.

Schematics: Roshomians are an odd race. Picture an elf, then add cat ears at the exact spot where his ears should be. They're forearm and calves are much larger than a humans, as a reflection they're enhanced strength and agility. Roshomians have tails- the length is about 3/4 the length of their bodies giving them an extra limb. Most of their body is bald save their ears tails forearms and legs. They're hands and feet are also proportianaly large-about 2x that of a humans. Roshomian pigment is normal, save they're hair, eyes and fur which spans a large pallete of colors ranging from black to white and including blue, red and even purple.

Roshomian history is very rich, including countless tales of hero's and evn more ghost stories. Most Roshomians are not very intellegent as they're tribal like society has favored Battle over education. But there are few who are blesed with higher than average and even genius IQs.

If we were to use this Idea I was thinking we could play a party of survivors who rise up and try to free the remainding population. You know, real FF type stuff, or we could just play a group who escape/find one another and decide that the race is lost and try to found a new homeland. Or we could appreciate our freedom and go with a Trosc Winaro type scenario, whatever.
