Though it had served mooglecavern.com through its "Golden Age," the EZboard incarnation of MoogleMB soon began to grow wary, the polices of EZboard slowly changing over time. While the service has originally began as a free service with little to no ads, as it grew popular the company began increasing the number of ads on each page, the option to turn them off offered to only paid subscribers. Tired of dealing with a bureaucracy that was far out of his hands, Kulock decided to invest in his own dedicated message board, hosted on servers that he paid for and therefore had far more control over.
On August 19, 2002, the original incarnation of MoogleMB.com became available to the public, powered by the phpBB software. With this newfound freedom, the message board and the community that possessed it was able to thrive, even as the website connected to it remained still. Being hosted independently did have its drawbacks, especially as the board grew in users and subsequently bandwidth consumption. It would not be unusual for access to the board to be suspended for the last day or two in a given month, the amount of bandwith that had been paid for that month having been spent. But instead of letting it get them down, the users just saw it as another "inside joke" that made them unique among their peers.
The board wasn't all fun and games, however, and there were times when personal issues would rise up. Though they often would be settled (or left to simmer in private messages), there were occasions when the entire board was affected by them. The first hacking attempt on the message board occurred in 2003, although the end result was only the loss of a handful of posts. The second attack, which happened on March 26, 2005, was fueled by a personal vendetta, which resulted in the entire board being wiped, and the server subsequently going offline.
In the aftermath, much of the MoogleMB's userbase regrouped on the old EZboard, waiting for Kulock to return and put the board back up. Not showing up until weeks after the attack, H Hog eventually set up another temporary board using the ProBoard service, which would be the MoogleMB's home until Christmas of 2006, when the final MoogleMB was set up on the mooglecavern.com domain.
Because of that final hacking attempt, much of the original MoogleMB.com that once resided on this domain has been lost. What follows bellow are the rescued remains of the "Silver Age," which offer a glimpse into a time when innocence was lost and the Internet changed around us...
