Subject: All 100 Rings in Special Time Attack |
5/27/99:
We all know the challenge. In sixty seconds, try to grab all one hundred rings scattered around Sonic World. What a challenge! But we managed to take down every other task Sonic Jam threw at us (in fact, if you were clever, you could "Touch Tails" and be back to the bumper within two seconds...), this should be a piece of cake, right? ...Right?
Well, many of us tried, but failed. Some came agonizingly close, my personal record was 96 rings, coasting far enough to get all 100, but only after the time over. The trick was to know the most efficient route. And to try. A lot. And then, if you ever did do it, to prove to your friends you actually did it, and you weren't lying. ;> Well, Solly, French Sonic fan extraordinaire, managed to do just that, repeatedly, and even captured an MPG to prover her victory. The MPG is only 400k, and that's with sound, you can download it by clicking on the image below.
Wow! Great! And 1 second, 14 milliseconds to spare! ...HUH?
That's right, Moogleteers, getting all 100 rings nets you zero. Zilcha. Nadda. As far as we can tell, not a thing changes. The task was so hard, the programmers didn't even bother to program in some reward!
2/26/00:
B.J. Brown has suggested that Sonic might need to return to the starting point. This makes the time limit even more ludicrous, but is a possibility. But if there is a reward for this great task, it better be something worthwhile, like the process for cold fusion. O_o Likely there isn't any reward, but who knows... so, if you've got a year or so to kill and don't mind having the Sonic World song burned into your brain, give it a shot. ^_^
