Engineering Director

We're looking for a highly technical Engineering Director who can drive technical projects and provide leadership for a group 40+ engineers in an innovative and fast paced environment.
You will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of the projects.

Engineering Director, Google.com (SRE)
This position is available in Mountain View, CA, / New York, NY / Kirkland, WA / Dublin, Ireland / and Zurich, Switzerland.
We're looking for a highly technical, hands-on Engineering Director to lead a team of 1-2 managers,
4-10+ Google software engineers and systems administrators for the Google.com group. The Google.com teams are directly
responsible for Google's stellar uptime record, and act as the guardians and
custodians of Google's user-visible services. In this leadership role, you
will be responsible for ensuring that Google users can always reach and use
all of the services under your team's care.
Requirements:
- Very high technical competence and strong academic record.
- 8+ years of relevant experience managing software development and/or operations teams.
- 4+ years of relevant hands-on technical experience, and a record of individual technical achievement.
- Deep understanding of networking, understanding of how to isolate, diagnose, and resolve service
delivery components (service delivery components include servers, networks, and applications);
familiarity with the functionality, operating, and failure modes of key networking devices
(routers, switches, bridges, firewalls, hardware load balancers);
ability to identify networking as the potential cause of a service issue using server-resident tools to generate this data
(tcpdump, ping, traceroute, etc.); familiarity in interpreting the output of these tools;
familiarity with common network topologies, protocols, and tools;
familiarity with common network security exploits and their remedies; understanding of troubleshooting at the packet level.
- Skilled in leading projects, especially in deploying live end-user systems.
- That rare mix of intelligence, integrity, domain knowledge, verbal agility,
and diplomacy which allows you to rapidly earn the trust of technically-astute teams across the company.

Engineering Project Manager
This position is available in Mountain View, CA.
As a Project Manager you will be responsible for managing, monitoring and coordinating regular
software releases. You will provide a single point of contact for releases and keep the cross-functional
launch team on task and target. In this role, you will work with Engineering, Product Management, QA
and Localization teams to ensure a smooth and seamless release of software products to the market.
You will also be responsible for special projects within the engineering area, driving projects to
completion and helping to document decisions and progress.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, document and execute standardized launch procedures for Google.
- Run cross-functional launch readiness meetings, identify launch gating items and drive them to resolution.
- Schedule and oversee both regularly scheduled and emergency software releases.
- Manage preparation of development and QA environments.
- Develop Metrics and Measurement process to evaluate timeliness and quality of launches.
- Over time, design and deliver a launch process with minimal (eventually zero) system downtime.
- Build positive relationships and trust over time through strong on-time delivery, high quality, continuous innovation, and by exceeding expectations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other engineering discipline.
5+ years of experience as a Software Developer and/or Project Manager in a Software/Internet company.
Proven experience releasing software products to market successfully.
Experience with launching Internet Software/Services a plus.
Strong organizational / project management skills.
Ability to develop and monitor project schedules and timelines to identify and meet critical milestones.
Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities.
Ability to understand technical subjects and emerging technologies and relevance to the marketplace.
Ability to interact with diverse groups of technical and non-technical people.
Must be able to communicate to senior executives internally and externally.

Open Source Program Manager
This position will involve travel but can be satisfied by candidates
located in New York, NY, Kirkland, WA, Santa Monica, CA or Mountain View, CA.
Google is looking for a candidate who can manage technical programs in
our open source software programs office. The candidate will be responsible
for the overall planning, budgeting, execution and success of these projects
and will work with Google Engineering, Legal, PR/Marketing, Finance, Recruiting
and the Executive Staff.
Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- A proven track record opening software in large organizations.
- A thorough understanding of open source/free software licensing
issues.
- Technical speaking experience.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Experience working with the technology press and online journalists/bloggers.
- Experience with Sourceforge, Tigris and Savannah and able to properly
leverage them.

Project Manager, Network Operations
Position available in Mountain View, CA.
Google has an immediate opening for a seasoned technical project manager to
plan, facilitate, and manage Google's network infrastructure and network
monitoring. The ideal candidate is a team oriented fast learner who combines
the ability to develop and manage project schedules, identify risks and
clearly communicate them to project stakeholders, define problem solving and
risk mitigation strategies, and facilitate conflict resolution. This
individual will work closely with both network operations and network
engineering staff on network management, monitoring, and IP network
maintenance and growth; with internal project management teams to communicate
target completion dates and ensure that all internal requirements are being
met in a timely manner; with external vendors to gather and enforce schedules
for installation of services; and with internal technical teams to ensure that
all services meet with their technical and service requirements.
A strong background in IP networking, IT infrastructure and network
monitoring, technology development/deployment or computing sciences is
essential for your success in this position. You must have a proven track
record of successfully driving project completion.
Requirements:
- BS or MS degree in a technical discipline or a minimum of 4 years in an IT-related field.
- At least 2 years of project management experience within the technology field.
- Strong knowledge of IP Network Operations environments.
- At least a junior administrator ability level in both networking and system administration.
- Excellent organization skills, project tracking abilities, communications skills (both verbal and written); strong focus and attention to detail; the ability to work in a very fast-paced, hectic, and energetic environment.
- A great attitude and willingness and ability to work smoothly within and between groups.
