Google's Award-Winning Search Engine to Power Search Functions Across America Online's Brands, Providing Consumers Easy Access to the Most Popular Search Engine Available
Google Will Also Provide Its Popular Paid Listings in Search Areas of AOL, AOL.COM, CompuServe and Netscape
DULLES, VA and MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF., -- May 1, 2002 -- America Online, Inc., the world's leading interactive services company, and Google Inc., developer of the industry-leading Google search engine, today announced a multi-year agreement that will make Google's popular search technology and targeted paid listings available on America Online brands.
Under the agreement, Google's search technology will begin powering the search areas of AOL, CompuServe, AOL.COM and Netscape this summer. By joining Google's industry-leading platform with America Online's extensive consumer audience and popular online brands, the companies plan to create an even better search experience for AOL's more than 34 million members and tens of millions of visitors to America Online's Web-based properties, both domestically and internationally.
In addition, a marketing agreement will enable Google to provide AOL and CompuServe members and users of AOL.COM and Netscape its targeted paid listings product, which offers a selection of listings ranked by relevancy and other factors, from Google's rapidly growing base of advertisers. Google's paid listings will begin rolling out on the AOL service and AOL.COM immediately; they will launch on Netscape and CompuServe in the next several weeks. Upon completion of the rollout, Google will be the exclusive provider of Sponsored Links for the search areas in these America Online properties.
Through Google's advanced search technology, tens of millions of users of America Online's brands will have access to Google's wide index of billions of documents. Google's search technology has earned numerous industry awards and citations, including two Webby Awards; two WIRED magazine Readers Raves Awards; Best Internet Innovation and Technical Excellence Award from PC Magazine; Top Ten Best Cybertech from TIME magazine; and Editor's Pick from CNET.
