NEC Selects Google to Provide Search Services on Japan's Leading BIGLOBE Portal Site
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - December 18, 2000 - Google Inc., developer of the award-winning Google search engine, today announced that it has been selected by NEC Corp. to provide web and site search services to NEC's BIGLOBE portal site and related online properties. BIGLOBE, one of Japan's largest Internet access providers, will also have access to Google's Japanese language index, which contains more than 38 million pages of Japan-specific information. BIGLOBE is the first Japanese Internet access provider to incorporate Google's search services into its site.
Google's web search services enable BIGLOBE users to access the more than 1.3 billion web pages contained in Google's search engine index, the largest available on the World Wide Web. In addition, Google's site search service enables visitors to efficiently navigate information contained specifically on the BIGLOBE site.
Under the terms of the agreement, Google is also providing custom search services to BIGLOBE to enable visitors to search for information specific to Japan. With more than 38 million pages, Google's Japan-specific index gives BIGLOBE visitors a fast, highly relevant source for answering queries related to Japan.
